Derek A Weiss, NP

Derek was born and raised in Minnesota and migrated west to Bozeman to study Exercise Physiology at Montana State University. He moved back to the Midwest to complete his paramedic degree at the University of Iowa and held both flight paramedic and ground medic positions in Arizona and Utah. Looking for more opportunities, he completed his bachelor s degree in nursing and spent the next two decades working in emergency and critical care across the country as a travel nurse in large metropolitan hospitals and critical access hospitals similar to Billings Clinic Broadwater. He spent the last six years in Juneau, Alaska working as a flight nurse for the University of Washington while completing his Nurse Practitioner degree at the University of Alaska. He has extensive experience working in rural, roadless communities of Alaska flying critically ill, complex medical and trauma patients to definitive care. Derek thrives in resource-limited settings including managing critically ill patients while flying at 40,000ft or stabilizing trauma patients in remote, roadless villages in Alaska. He is excited about the opportunity to practice both emergency and primary care in a rural community with a great team of experienced and supportive providers and nurses. Derek lives in Townsend with his wife and son. In their free time, they are usually outdoors as a family skiing, hiking in the mountains, or previously hunting on remote islands in Alaska.
