Matthew A. Smith-Cohn, DO, is a dually board-certified Neurologist and Neuro-Oncologist who serves as the Medical Director for both the Brain Tumor and Neurofibromatosis Centers at Billings Clinic. Dr. Smith-Cohn has deep expertise is in the management of brain and spine tumors, such as gliomas, meningiomas, lymphoma, brain metastasis, genetic disorders causing tumors of the nervous system such as Neurofibromatosis, Schwannomatosis, Von Hippel-Lindau Syndrome, Tuberous Sclerosis as well as neurological complications of cancer and cancer treatments.
Dr. Smith-Cohn grew up in Worthington, Ohio and attended Alfred University in Alfred, NY, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology and Exercise Science. During medical school, he completed a research fellowship in brain cancer immunology at the University of Pittsburgh Hillman Cancer Center. Dr. Smith-Cohn subsequently earned his medical degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. Afterward, he completed his Neurology residency at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City. He then completed a joint clinical and research fellowship in Neuro-Oncology at Johns Hopkins University and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Maryland. Dr. Smith-Cohn is an experienced clinical investigator for trials focusing on brain cancer. He believes in a patient-centered, team-based approach for patients.
In his free time, he enjoys the outdoors with family and friends including hiking, camping, skiing, rock climbing, snorkeling, astronomy and nature photography.
